In a shocking incident, relatives of a woman admitted to the Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital in Nanded were forced to drag her around in a bed sheet as the authorities could not provide them with either a stretcher or a wheelchair.
According to sources at the hospital, the incident happened on Thursday.
Footage of the woman hunched on a bed sheet that was pulled by her relatives was broadcast by local television channels leading to a furore.
Officials of the Health Department of the Maharashtra Government said they have ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Shortly after the video was telecast on television, the dean of the hospital, Dr Chandrakant Mhaske, blamed the relatives of the patient for dragging her on a bed sheet.
