To start work on the Delhi-Alwar rail-based Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) project within a year, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has targeted for approval of its detailed project report (DPR) from all stakeholders, including Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Making a presentation on salient features of the project, NCRTC Managing Director VK Singh said the 180.5-km project would cost around Rs 37,539 crore. There would be 19 stations on the proposed alignment with the first 56 km involving nine stations from ISBT-Kashmeri Gate in Delhi to Cyber City in Haryana (being underground) and the remaining 124.5-km stretch with 10 stations being elevated, he said.

With design speed of 180 kmph, operating speed of 160 kmph and average speed of 105 kmph, journey between Delhi and Alwar could be completed in just 104 minutes, Singh claimed. Frequency of services would be every five to 10 minutes, depending the time of the day. With six car combination to begin with, each train could carry 1,154 passengers. There would be no land acquisition issues since the entire corridor was underground and elevated, he said.

Durga Shanker Mishra, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development, said the RRTS was comfortable, safe and fast mode of travel and Delhi-Alwar RRTS would trigger economic development in the region, including employment generation. He suggested to the NCRTC to consider adding some more station on the stretch.

He also complimented the NCRTC for ensuring convergence of Delhi-Alwar, Delhi-Meerut and Delhi-Panipat RRTS corridors at Sarai Kalekhan in Delhi.
