BS Yediyurappa may be taking his oath as chief minister for the second time in less than two years, but that’s not the only thing that held social media’s interest on Friday.

The BJP strongman has now changed how he spells his name from ‘Yeddyurappa’ to ‘Yediyurappa’. The change, apparent in a letter he sent to Governor Vajubhai Vala staking claim to form government and later in an official invitation for his swearing in, was reportedly prompted by official invitation.

The four-time chief minister has gone back to his original spelling—he had changed his name from ‘Yediyurappa’ to ‘Yeddyurappa’ after he had to resign from the chief minister’s position in 2007 in a move prompted by Janata Dal (Secular)’s pull out from the government.

The development came hours before he became chief minister once again after the Janata Dal (Secular)-Congress government could not prove their numbers in a floor test held earlier this week.

As BJP stood on the doorstep of power on Friday, BJP workers were jubilant. Drumbeats reverberated from party offices and smoked from fire crackers filled the air. A festive atmosphere prevailed at the BJP state headquarters in Malleswaram and near Yediyurappa's residence, where workers distributed sweets.

Special prayers were offered to the village deity in Bookanakere, Yediyurappa's birth place in Mandya district, to ward off any hurdles in his latest term as chief minister, sources said.

Grand celebrations were also held in his native Shivamogga district. Agencies
