Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath transferred 22 IPS officers, 22 IAS and three PCS officers late last night following mounting attack by the opposition on the law and order situation.
Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has got a new team. Both the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police have been replaced.
During a recent review of the development work, CM Yogi had expressed his displeasure at the tardy progress and at the law and order situation in Varanasi.
Lucknow District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, who had taken charge soon after CM Yogi assumed office in 2017, gets the coveted post of Varanasi DM.
The new Varanasi SSP is Prabhakar Chaudhary who has been shifted from Sonbhadra.
Outgoing Varanasi DM Surendra Singh is joining the CM’s secretariat as a special secretary. A 2006-batch IAS officer, Abhishek Prakash, has replaced Sharma as the DM of Lucknow. The seven other districts which have got new District Magistrates are Bareilly, Ballia, Rae Bareli, Farukhabad, Lalitpur, Hamirpur and Mirzapur. Mirzapur gets a new divisional commissioner as well as DM. The district administration had come under fire when a video on government schoolchildren eating salt-roti had gone viral.
The Yogi government also transferred 22 IPS officers, including police chiefs of eight districts. Outgoing Varanasi SSP SA Kulkarni has been sent to Lucknow as Superintendent of Police (SP) Cyber Crime.
The other districts which have got new district police chiefs are Sonbhadra, Shravsti, Mahoba, Kaushambhi, Fatehpur, Hapur and Chitrakoot.
