Mumbai, April 19
Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has threatened to carry out further attacks on international fashion chain Zara for selling clothing made in Pakistan.
On Tuesday, MNS activists descended on several outlets of Zara across Mumbai and created ruckus. The party workers then left after leaving behind a 'notice' asking the chain to stop stocking Pakistan-made clothes.
“We have warned Zara management that we would take action against them for selling Pakistan-made apparel,” Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena vice-president Akhil Chitre said.
Following a complaint by Zara, the police arrested several activists of the MNVS and then released them on bail.
Chitre said Zara employees had refused to take down merchandise made in Pakistan and the top management did not agree to meet the activists.
Following this, the MNVS decided to vandalize Zara outlets in South and Central Mumbai, Chitre added.
In its memorandum to Zara management, the MNS cited Pakistan's decision to hang Kulbhushan Jadhav. “Today our jawans, police and numerous citizens are being injured and troubled by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. It has often targeted the Marathi man's Mumbai. Not a place in the country has escaped terrorism,” the missive to Zara read.
