Jalandhar, July 7
Two city girls — Shabhnam and Sunaina — of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), who are cadets in the II Punjab Girls Battalion of the NCC, were honoured with trophy and medal for their outstanding performance in the camp today.
Both want to pursue a career in the armed forces. They said they were motivated to continue with their efforts.
Shabhnam gets best cadet trophy
Shabhnam recently cleared her ‘C’ certificate examination with A-grade, being declared as the topper and the best cadet from Jalandhar. She was awarded with the best cadet trophy here today during a convocation ceremony held at Ivy World School. She is now preparing for crime defence services (CDS) exam.
Training hard at the camp in Jalandhar, Shabhnam was also one among the 147 girls selected from the country to lead the Republic Day parade this year.
The multi-talented girl was also a part of the contingent that performed at a cultural event at the Prime Minister’s residence.
Under the special national integration camp that was held in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, she took training for scuba diving. She also visited various adventurous spots.
Following her father’s unfulfilled dream of donning the olive green, she had been training hard as an NCC cadet.
A student of BCA (semester IV), she says she has, at times, sacrificed her studies to stay focused on her goal of joining the armed forces.
Citing example of the first batch of women fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force, Shabhnam is happy that with time, girls had proven that they could perform equally well in the armed forces. She is banking on the support of her father, mentors at the NCC and college teachers.
Camp senior title for Sunaina
In a recent II Punjab Girls Battalion camp of the NCC that was held at HMV College, Sunaina bagged the camp senior trophy.
She was declared the best firer of the camp. Also she went for an adventure camp at NIM, Utarkashi.
Bringing laurels to the institution, cadet Sunaina won the first position in all competitions that were held in the camp — rock climbing, cross country race of 3 km, point-to-point march of 9 km and bivouacking (tent pitching).
The girl has also attended the national integration camp (NIC) that was held in Karnataka and Goa.
Representing Punjab in the camp, she said, “It was amazing to share our culture during the camp. We stayed with other cadets from across the country and learnt a great deal. I was also awarded with the best cadet trophy.”
Aspiring to join armed forces, she is now gearing up for the CDS exam.
She said the college always provided cadets with state-of-the-art infrastructure and training due to which NCC cadets of the institution made a mark at camps.
