The cast of ‘21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897’, a Discovery JEET’s launch show, was in the city to promote their show, here today. Telly actor Mohit Raina who plays Havildar Ishar Singh’s role and veteran actor Mukul Dev who plays Gul Badhshah’s role in the show are excited to be in Punjab as part of a promotional tour.

‘21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897’ is a fictional show inspired by the real-life story of 21 brave soldiers of the 36th Sikh regiment of the British Indian Army. In September 1897, a contingent of 21 soldiers from the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army-led by Havildar Ishar Singh successfully defended a remote outpost in the North-West Frontier Province from an attack by over 10,000 Afghan tribesmen. This has been called as one of the bravest last stands in military history. Produced by Contiloe Productions, ‘21 Sarfarosh: Saragarhi 1897’ will be aired on the new entertainment channel Discovery JEET, starting February 12.

“I am excited to be in Punjab. I have learnt a lot about Punjab, its culture while playing the role of Ishar Singh. This role is different from my previous roles. Ishar Singh was ready to sacrifice his life for his motherland. The intensity, the passion of the character has to be lived from the core of your heart,” said Mohit Raina.

“Playing the role of a period drama has its own challenges. One must work hard to ensure that you don’t just embrace the character you are playing. You also must understand the little nuances of the period to deliver an authentic experience. I am confident that viewers across the country will shower their blessings on the show,” added Raina.

“Punjab is inseparable from my personality as I have spent a lot of time in my growing up years here. I am always keen to be here. In fact, I pushed the team to visit as many cities of the state as possible as part of this promotional tour,” said Mukul Dev.

“Gul Badshah is one of the most exciting roles I have played in my life. My childhood learning came into play while I played this challenging role. My father knew how to speak in Pushtan; he understood the Afghani culture very well. He played a key role in helping get the correct pronunciation and diction,” said Dev.
