Traders want ban on plastic bags over 50 microns lifted

Members of the Kesar Ganj Plastic Traders’ Association have demanded the Municipal Corporation to allow them sell plastic carry bags of above 50 microns. The members met Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and MC’s additional commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal here on Wednesday.
The members assured them of not manufacturing and selling plastic bags less than 50 microns. As the use of plastic carry bags is banned, the members have appealed to the state government to allow them bags of more than 50 microns.
One of the members said the shopkeepers who sell above 50 microns were allegedly being harassed. He said they had met the officials of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and the elected representatives, seeking amendment in the law to allow manufacturing and selling of bags above 50 microns.
They demanded the state government to make amendment in the law and allow them manufacture and use plastic bags of above 50 microns.
