DAV School reaches crossword finals

The team of Mehak Sood and Harshita Jain from DAV Senior Secondary School, Lakkar Bazar, here on Tuesday won the Shimla city round of the national inter-school CCCC Cryptic Crossword Contest 2018. They solved 17 out of 20 puzzles.

They have qualified for the year-end grand finale to be held in New Delhi.

The team of Satvik Sharma and Akhil Dadwal from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Paprola, Kangra, was declared the runner-up.

The contest was held at DAV school, Lakkar Bazar. As many as 20 school teams from the state participated.

Prizes and certificates to the winning teams were given by Kamna Beri, principal of the host school. This was the last city round in the region. Earlier, city rounds were held in Jammu, Ludhiana and Chandigarh. Popularly called CCCC, the contest comprises two phases. In the preliminary phase, schools send two-member teams to various city rounds across India to sit through an hour-long written test. In the second phase, the winning teams converge on the national capital to fight it out for the National Crossword Champion trophy. The contest is open to students of Standard IX to XII. — TNS
