Bholath powerlifter wins bronze medal in Dubai championship

Ajay Gogna of Bholath has brought laurels to the state by winning a bronze medal at the Asian Benchpress Championship held in Dubai from September 19 to 24.
He bagged the medal in the under 120+ weight category and the championship was organised by the UAE Powerlifting Federation.
As many as 22 countries, including Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Mongolia, Kuwait, Singapore and Uzbekistan, participated in the championship.
Ajay is a five-time national champion in powerlifting. He has won many district and state-level competitions.
Talking to The Tribune, Ajay said, “I was selected in the under 120+ category by the Indian Powerlifting Federation to represent the country in Dubai. Although, we were very close to silver, I am happy that we have brought something back home and gave a tough fight to other nations.”
Ajay said he always wanted to be a powerlifter and now his target was to make crave a niche in sports by winning a world championship.
“I give tips on powerlifting to the youth of my village. I also motivate them to practise any sport of their choice on a daily basis,” he added.
Davindra Singh Malhi, president, Punjab Powerlifting Association, congratulated him for the achievement.
The president of the Punjab Powerlifting also wished him success for his upcoming national and international championships.
