Heena wins 10m trial, Manu third
New Delhi, December 28
Two-time Olympian Heena Sidhu won the second trial in the 10 metre air pistol trial that was held at the Karni Singh Shooting Range on Friday. Heena, representing ONGC, shot a total of 243.7 points to finish ahead of teammate Shweta Singh who shot 238 in the final. Manu Bhaker finished third with a total of 217.5 points.
Haryana’s Manu had topped the qualification rounds with 583 points, followed by Heena (576).
This was a role reversal of sorts as it was Manu who had won the first trial on Thursday. She had pipped 13-year-old Esha Singh in the final after scoring 242.1 points. Esha had finished second with 240.4. Heena had equalled the world record with 587 in the qualifying on Thursday. Manu, however, won the junior 10 metre trial after beating Esha by .4 in the final on Friday.
Dhillon shines
Punjab’s Fateh Singh Dhillon won both the junior men’s and men’s 50m rifle prone second trial. In the senior competition, Dhillon beat Olympian Sanjeev Rajput. Dhillon scored 623.3 points, followed by Rajput on 614.9 and West Bengal’s Subhankar Pramanick on 621.8. In the junior category, he finished ahead of Madhya Pradesh’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Navy’s Niraj Kumar. — TNS
