Online opinion poll: Residents’ thumbs down to service charge at eateries

Residents of the City Beautiful voted against the service charge being levied by restaurants and food joints in an online poll. The Chandigarh Administration conducted the poll on the issue of imposition of service charge, where 794 voted against the charges and only 104 votes were cast in favour of the charges.
To know the opinion of the public on the issue, the UT on September 15 gave a week’s time to the city residents to give their opinion. It was conducted online on www.mygov.in (national citizen engagement portal) by the Department of Consumer Affairs.
Danish Sharif, nodal officer, Smart City project and additional director, Food Supplies Consumer Affairs Department, said the MyGov platform that has been recently incorporated in the officialmobile application of the Chandigarh Administration –“Smart Chandigarh mobile app” would beconsidered while deciding the issue.
The UT is already waiting for the legal opinion on the issue of service charge levied by several eateries and restaurants in the city. The opinion poll would be considered while deciding upon the issue.
