Showcasing various religious and social ideas via symbolic features, an Amritsar-based artist began a four-day painting exhibition at Virsa Vihar yesterday.

Various religious themes, including Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings, Gautam Budha’s enlightenment, episodes from Ramayana, character of Shakuni in Mahabharata and playing of flute by Lord Krishna, have been depicted in the form of paintings on canvas by Pankaj Sachdev of Art Namasya. The explanations to all paintings have been given by his brother Sidhant Sachdev, a writer and a life skills orator.

Prized between Rs 400 to Rs 5 lakh, the paintings have been made by an imported, UV-protected medium.

“Unarmed with any formal training, I was working as an amateur painter. After people began appreciating, I turned a full time painter a few years ago. The enigma of spirituality and insightful concepts is illustrated in my paintings in the form of symbolic images. It brings together a multiplicity of thought and creativity to make readily accessible our rich history and philosophy, especially to youngsters. I have tried to showcase philosophical works, which are heavy on aesthetics, beauty and taste,” said Pankaj.

Another painting exhibition was organised by artist Rajesh Nagra at Dasehra ground, Nurmahal. The artist used various strokes to portray nature’s beauty. The exhibition was a feast for local residents, who rarely get a chance to appreciate art work.

Nagar council president Jagat Mohan Sharma and principal Ravi Sharma were among those who visited the exhibition.
