IIT Delhi team wins Enactus championship

IIT Delhi team won the 11th Enactus India National Championship beating 57 student entrepreneurship projects for community outreach from the Enactus India college network of over 90 colleges and 3000 students participating in the Enactus India National Competition from July 21st 22nd 2015

IIT, Delhi, team won the 11th Enactus India National Championship beating 57 student entrepreneurship projects for community outreach from the Enactus India college network of over 90 colleges and 3000 students participating in the Enactus India National Competition from July 21st- 22nd 2015. Ramjas College, Delhi was the 1st runner-up and Hansraj College, Delhi was the second runner up. Enactus India is a subsidiary of Enactus Worldwide, an international non-profit organisation of students with a focus on community empowerment and entrepreneurship action with a presence in 36 countries with over 70,000 active student members spread across 1700 universities. The winning team from IIT Delhi. will present its project at the prestigious Enactus World Cup 2015 to be held at Johannesburg, South Africa between October 14 - 16, 2015. The IIT Delhi team led by Praneeth Buriyu has 47 members participating in the winning Enactus projects.

IIT Delhi’s winning project was Excelsior INDIA. As a part of the initiative, the team’s entrepreneurs collect waste papers from urban areas, recycle that and convert the waste paper into recycled paper notebooks of very fine quality. They have also come up with a unique design for a bag-cum-desk, completely made out of cardboard which can serve both as a bag to carry one’s belongings and a desk to write upon. They plan to distribute the bags among children from underprivileged sections of society along with a complete package of stationery items. The stationary package would include the bag-cum-desk, recycled notebooks, four pencils and an eraser. This package will be sold to the students at a very affordable rate of Rs30. The entire share of the profit will be given to entrepreneurs. The team also presented Project Aanch- a smokeless chullah for the underprivileged sections of society.

Digital education provided to 5,500 women in Punjab

In a move to boost empowerment of rural women through digital medium, AISECT has conducted the E-Vidya Programme for Digital Literacy for SABLA women in Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur districts in Punjab. Under this project, basic digital education was provided by AISECT CSCs to SABLA women as a stepping stone for pursuing a long term IT course and for boosting their employability.

The E-Vidya Programme for digital literacy is designed to impart digital literacy to rural women by providing basic Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills. The registrations and teaching are conducted through an online portal, and all trained beneficiaries appear in NIELIT’s online BCC exam at the AISECT CSCs. E-Vidya participants do not have to pay any registration, training or examination fee for the programme. AISECT has so far trained 5500 women beneficiaries in Punjab, 2500 in Gurdaspur and 3000 in Hoshiarpur, under the programme.

National-level automation competition

Mitsubishi Electric India is holding a national-level automation competition for students in India. The Mitsubishi Electric Cup has kickstarted across the country from July 24 where students can register at http://www.MitsubishiElectric.in/FA/MECup

The competition invites participation from technical institutions across the country. Students are required to integrate Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation products (including PLC, servo, inverter and human-machine interface, etc.), build up and achieve an analogous system of intelligent manufacturing and energy saving management application, based on e&eco-f@ctory concept while taking e-f@ctory system as the trunk.

The contest aims at improving the ability of college students for engineering application, arouse their interests in learning engineering technology and build up an innovation capacity in them.

The top 15 teams need to prepare working model of various industrial manufacturing processes, energy saving solutions, smart solutions for building automation etc. Teams will be provided with technical support, training and FA equipment worth Rs 1.75 lakh to make the model, on a returnable basis by Mitsubishi Electric India.

All the participants will be given certificates of participation and the winning team will get a prize worth of Rs1 lakh. The runner up team will be awarded prize worth of Rs75,000 while the team winning the third spot will be given prize worth of Rs50, 000.

The last date for registrations and submission of proposals is September 15, 2015. The top 15 teams selected will be announced on October 1, 2015 and these teams will have to submit their intermediate reports by December 21, 2015. The final competition will be held on February 12 and 13, 2016 at the Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, Pune.
