The Department of English and Foreign Languages at MDU organised a workshop on Creative Writing and Translation on the university campus recently.

The Head of the Department, Prof Poonam Datta, said creative writing had a universal appeal and translation gives it a global reach. Novelist and story-writer Geetanjali Shree delved into the essence of creative writing, while writer-translator Sukrita Paul Kumar gave tips on the finer points of translation. MDU Dean (Students Welfare) Prof Raj Kumar was the guest of honour, while the Advisor of the English Literary Society, Dr Rashmi Malik, coordinated the event.

Campus placement

A campus-placement drive was organised by the MDU Institute of Management Studies and Research (IMSAR) on the university campus recently.

The placement coordinator, Dr Divya Malhan, said written tests, group discussions and interviews were conducted during the selection process for different companies.

“Seventeen students got placements in Swajal Water, while 35 have been shortlisted by Kotak Mahindra and Bharti Airtel,” she informed.

Book release

A Reader’s Guide to Hemingway’s ‘The Sun Also Rises’ by Prof Bhim S Dahiya, a former Professor of English at Kurukshetra University and Dr S.P.S. Dahiya, a Professor of English at MDU, was released during a national seminar on ‘Contemporary Indian Literature: An Overview’ organized on the premises of Pt Neki Ram Sharma Government College, Rohtak, recently. Prof Abhay Maurya, a former Vice-Chancellor of English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, who was the chief guest on the occasion, released the book.
