AMRITSAR, Nov. 22 — A four-mile long procession unparalleled in history of the city since Partition with over two lakh people belonging to all communities participating was taken out this morning to celebrate the birth quincentenary of Guru Nanak.

The procession which started from Burj Bhai Phula Singh outside Sheranwala Gate at 10 this morning, was headed by a decorated elephant, 200 scooter-riders, 50 horse-riders and an equal number of camels. Parties of over 20,000 schoolchildren and college students carrying their school banners added to the charm of the procession. Kirtan parties of men and women in trucks and tractor trolleys joined the procession in hundreds. An airplane showered flowers on the processionists. A ‘jatha’ of 100 ‘namdharis’ and several ‘gatka’ parties also participated in the procession.
