The Struggle Committee continued its protest against Century Plyboard factory at Daulowal for the 23rd day today. Residents of Chadial and surrounding villages had also participated in the dharna, led by Makhan Singh, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the administration has constituted an inquiry committee to investigate into the matter. The committee will examine the issues raised by the people against the factory and submit its report to the Hoshiarpur DC.
The Struggle Committee had put its demands before the administration. A meeting in this regard was held between the members of the committee and Hoshiarpur SDM a few days ago and the second meeting was held between the committee members and the ADC.
Hoshiarpur DC Vipul Ujwal told The Tribune that the committee people were invited to open the dialogue with them. He said “A panel has been formed to inquire into the grievances of the people regarding the factory. It is headed by an under-training IAS officer and Hoshiarpur SDM will be the overall in charge of the matter. We have asked the people to list out their worries and the issues regarding the factory and they have given us a list. The inquiry committee, comprising of the officers concerned and two members from among the agitators, will investigate the issue. They will visit the site and take all legal and practical things into consideration. Whatever report the committee will give, action will be taken accordingly,” he added.
