Poets throw light on Guru Nanak’s life

Prominent poets presented their poems describing the life and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev in different languages during the two-days South Asia Kavi Darbar, dedicated to 550th Parkash Purb, held at the auditorium of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan, GNDU, on Tuesday.
Organized by the GNDU, along with the state government, the session witnessed participation of personalities from different countries and states. Poets from Sri Lanka, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, and across nation presented their ‘kalaam’.
Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, said poets and writers could play a pivotal role in the advancement of society. Poets should make efforts to disseminate the teachings of the Guru, he said.
Amarjit Singh, coordinator of the kavi darbar, said the GNDU had scheduled more than 25 programmes dedicated to the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev.
GNDU Vice Chancellor Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu honoured the guests.
Poets and poetesses, who participated in the event, included Sanmukh Singh Anand from Iran, Gurcharan Singh Charan from Delhi, Artika Arora Bakhshi from Sri Lanka, Prof Hamidulah Mirazi from Kashmir, Artinder Kaur Sandhu and Iqbal Kaur. Rachhpal Singh from Jalandhar managed the stage.
