Jalandhar, January 19
Gurjit Singh Sanghera, the estranged son of Congress leader Avtar Henry, joined the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in the presence of Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann here today.
“I have joined AAP because ‘goonda raj’ prevails in the Jalandhar North constituency. My father is shielding gangsters, including Suraj Lahoria and Prem Lahroia associated with the Nabha jailbreak,” he said.
The Congress has fielded his step-brother Avtar Henry Junior from the segment.
Gurjit had, on November 24 last year, joined the SAD in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in Jalandhar.
Avtar Henry hit back at Gurjit, saying that “he is a nuisance-maker”. “Everyone knows about his background. I have nothing to do with him, nor does he have any importance. He was first with the Congress and then he joined the SAD. Now, he is speaking rubbish from another stage. He is a nuisance-maker,” he said. He refuted Gurjit’s allegation that he was shielding gangsters.
