With 100 more candidates filing their nomination papers for the Municipal Council elections today, the number of candidates vying the membership of the civic body rose to 229.
Today was the last date for filing of nomination papers for the elections scheduled for January 8. The elections would be held for 31 wards.
Of the 229 candidates, 95 are women.
SDM Satpal Singh told mediapersons that the scrutiny of nomination forms would be held on December 28 and the candidates wishing to withdraw nomination could do so on December 29 by 3 pm. The remaining candidates would be allotted poll symbols on the same day, he added.
The SDM said all the candidates would have to give details of their poll expenditure and they could not spend more than Rs 1 lakh as per guidelines of the State Election Commission.
