One of the BJP councillors has raised question over the voting rights of the nine nominated councillors in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, despite the fact that this time, the BJP won the Mayor’s seat after a long gap of 15 years with the support of nominated councilors.
Before the recent mayoral poll, the party whose central and local leaders had opposed the voting rights of nominated councillors. But after winning the mayoral poll, the party leaders had started supporting their voting rights.
But now, a BJP councilor, Satinder Singh, has raised question over it. In a letter to the Central Government, senior BJP leaders in Delhi and Chandigarh, Satinder Singh has demanded cancellation of the voting rights of nominated councillors.
In his letter, Singh had also attached statements given by the party’s senior leaders in the past where they had opposed the voting rights of nominated councillors.
Recently, Congress councillor Subhash Chawla had also filed an RTI in which he had sought the selection criteria of nine nominated councillors.
