Patiala, February 24
The state BJP fears that the SAD would rig the polls. The alliance partner alleges the Akalis might intimidate voters in Sanaur and Rajpura. While the SAD (Badal) rubbished the allegations, the BJP has already informed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and the Patiala Deputy Commissioner (DC) about the matter.
The BJP expects the SAD would resort to unfair means in Sanaur as the two parties are contesting head to head in 10 wards. The Congress candidates have already filed nomination papers as Independent, fearing police threats.
National secretary BJP Tarun Chugh, who today visited Sanaur and later met candidates and supporters in Rajpura said, “The BJP will not tolerate any coercion. We have already asked our candidates to give a befitting reply to the Akalis.”
BJP executive member Ginny Dhillon said, “We have given a written representation to the Patiala administration that the Akalis would resort to violence to intimidate voters on polling day.”
The SAD and the BJP have failed to agree on the seat sharing arrangement in Samana, Nabha, Rajpura and Sanaur. While the two face each other in some wards in Rajpura, they are pitted against each other on all wards in Sanaur.
While in Nabha, the two allies are silently working against each other. Senior SAD leaders have rubbished the BJP’s claims. “The BJP is our ally and they should not be suspicious of our motives,” they said.
