The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a ‘Jan Jagriti Abhiyan’ (public awareness campaign) and carry out social welfare activities to mark birth centenary year of social thinker, philosopher and leader of the Jan Sangh – Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
This was stated by party’s district president Ravinder Arora while addressing a meeting here yesterday. He said a seven-member committee would chalk out the programme for the campaign in each district.
State organising Secretary Dinesh Kumar, General Secretaries Jiwan Gupta and Kewal Gill, Vice-President Anil Sareen and Secretary Renu Thapar were present.
State BJP General Secretary Jiwan Gupta said the abhiyan would continue throughout the year (till March 8, 2018) — as announced by state president Vijay Sampla. He said its objective would be to raise the standard of living of the common man through welfare activities and to make them self-reliant.
“The office-bearers of the party will lend their cooperation for at least 15 days to effectively run the campaign and also enroll maximum number of full-time workers for the party,” he added.
Organising Secretary Dinesh Kumar said the task of mobilising the youth had been assigned to the Yuva Morcha. They would organise sports tournaments for promoting traditional Indian sports such as kabaddi, kho-kho, wrestling, along with cricket at ward, mandal and district level, to channelise the energy of the youth towards constructive activities.
Similarly, the BJP Mahila Morcha (women wing) activists would form groups to impart vocational training to the youth to help them become self-reliant. The workers would also hold seminars on educating the girl child and women empowerment, besides apprising the rural women of welfare schemes of the government.
Ravinder Arora said party workers would also organise programmes under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, vana mahotsav (tree plantation), elementary education, public health, drug de-addiction and propogation of various welfare schemes of the government throughout the year.
