BJP councillors, who were allotted to former senior deputy mayor and BJP councillor Heera Negi for the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) elections, have demanded from the observer that besides Negi, a probe should also be also conducted into the votes polled to BJP candidates Arun Sood and Kanwarjeet Singh.
After the shocking defeat of BJP councillor Heera Negi in the F&CC elections, party president Sanjay Tandon had appointed General Secretary Chander Shekhar as observer, along with Mayor Asha Jaswal, to hold meeting of all six councillors, who were allotted to Negi for the F&CC poll.
The party had decided that six BJP councillors would vote for Negi. They were Mahesh Inder Singh Sidhu, Raj Bala Malik, Heera Negi, Rajesh Gupta, Farmila and Chandrawati Shukla. Similarly, the party had decided six councillors for other BJP candidates such as Arun Sood, Jagtar Jagga, Kanwar Rana and nominated councillor Ajay Datta. During the poll, Heera Negi only got four votes, whereas Sood got seven votes.
Besides, Kanwarjeet Singh had managed Independent Councillor Dalip Sharma’s vote for himself. But instead of getting seven votes, Kanwarjeet Singh only got six votes.
To find out the party councillor, who did not vote for the party candidates, BJP General Secretary Chander Shekhar and Mayor Asha Jaswal held a meeting with six councillors allotted to Negi on January 26.
In the meeting, Shekhar had given chance to every councillor if he or she wants to say anything. Sources revealed that during the meeting, Negi told committee members that she wants justice as it is the second time she was backstabbed. Similarly, other committee members also proposed that votes of Sood and Kanwarjeet should be checked as Sood had got one extra vote, whereas Kanwarjeet had got one less vote.
BJP general secretary Chander Shekhar said the party was conducting its probe and report would soon be submitted to party president Sanjay Tandon. “The guilty will not be spared,” Shekhar said.
Box: Party to question every single councillor
As the BJP lost F&CC poll despite having a majority in the MC House, the party will question every single councillor of its party. The party is gathering every possible information about the councillor’s activity in the recent past.
