While the candidates fielded by parties such as the Congress, the BJP, the SAD and the BSP, are contesting against each other in 26 wards for the coming MC poll, but a lot is common among these candidates.

In Ward No. 1, Congress candidate Harmohinder Singh Lucky and BJP candidate Mahesh Inder Sidhu are not only advocates, but have also served as the presidents of the state youth wing of their respective parties. Besides, both of them reside in Sector 8.

Similarly, in Ward No. 4, Congress candidate Poonam Sharma and BJP candidate Sunita Dhawan are presidents of the state women wing of their respective parties.

In Ward No. 14, the Congress has fielded Rana Karanveer Singh and BJP has given the ticket to Kanwarjeet Singh Rana. Both of them have their roots in Burail village (Ward No. 14) and belong to the same Rajput community which has a strong voter base in the village.

In Ward No. 2, Congress candidate Deipa Asdhir Dubey and BJP candidate Raj Bala Malik are advocates by profession. Similarly, in Ward No. 8, BJP candidate Mayor Arun Sood and Congress candidate Rajesh Sharma are advocates. Both Sood and Sharma had even contested the 2011 MC poll from the same in which Sood had won.

Unable to participate, husbands field their wives

In Ward No.12, BJP candidate Chandrawati Shukla and Congress candidate Jaspreet Kaur Tiwana are contesting against each other. While Chadrawati Shukla’s husband Gopal Shukla is an active BJP leader, Tiwana’s husband Anand Singh has been actively involved with the Congress for the past many years. As Anand Singh and Gopal Shukla could not contest from the ward due to the reservation for women, both leaders fielded their wives who have not been much active in their respective political parties.
