Power cuts irk Una residents

Una, July 15
Undeclared power cuts during the night in various parts of the district during the last few days has caused a lot of resentment among people.
The state electricity board maintained that silting in some of the state’s hydel projects had been the reason for these cuts.
The worst sufferers are those living in the lower areas as frequent power cuts make it difficult for them in this hot and humid weather.
During last night’s power cut, a large section of the residents of the Santoshgarh Nagar Panchayat raised slogans against the Electricity Board. The locals alleged that the working of the officials of the electricity board was putting the consumers to unnecessary harassment.
Meanwhile, Dev Vrat Sharma, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Boad’s Transmission Department, said the cuts were ordered by the board’s state dispatcher due to some snag in the Jhakhari and Rampur power projects, owing to silting during the monsoons. He said out of the total 80-MW power supply to Una district, only 20 MW was being received, necessitating cuts on a rotational basis.
