Power theft: PSPCL drive yields Rs 44.73 L

LUDHIANA: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) today carried out an early morning drive to check power theft and cases of unauthorised use of electricity (UUE) in all the four circles of City West, City East, Suburban and Khanna that fall under Central Zone.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) today carried out an early morning drive to check power theft and cases of unauthorised use of electricity (UUE) in all the four circles of City West, City East, Suburban and Khanna that fall under Central Zone. In all, 279 cases of theft and UUE were detected and a total penalty of Rs 44.73 lakh was collected from the defaulting consumers.

According to PSPCL Chief Engineer/Central Zone DPS Grewal, various teams of operations wing of the circle inspected 6,160 power connections with focus on urban pattern supply (UPS) and high loss feeders and unearthed 279 cases of theft through kundi connections or meter tampering as well as UUE.

The highest number of theft and UUE cases (130) were found in suburban circle, 74 in City West circle, 52 in City East circle and 23 in Khanna circle.

However, in terms of amount of penalty imposed, City West circle topped the list with Rs 17.74 lakh, followed by City East Rs 12.33 lakh, Suburban circle with Rs 9.83 lakh and Khanna circle at Rs 4.83 lakh, said Grewal.
