Pre-primary schools get Rs 1.98 crore to introduce teaching learning material

The School Education Department has released Rs1.98 crore to introduce teaching learning material (TLM) in all 12,958 pre-primary schools in the state.

Teachers use the TLM, which is a spectrum of educational materials, in the classroom to support specific learning objectives as set out in lesson plans. TLM includes games, flashcards and project supplies.

It is a programme for all pre-primary schools in the state, catering to the need of students of the age-group of three to six years.

Each pre-primary school has received Rs1,531 for the introduction of the TLM. While there are 12,958 pre-primary schools — 399 in Bathinda, 329 in Muktsar, 359 in Moga, 249 in Faridkot, 615 in Ferozepur, 297 in Mansa, 955 in Jalandahr, 999 in Ludhiana, 836 in Amritsar and 946 in Patiala — in the state.

As per the directions of the Director General School Education (DGSE), Punjab, the TLM should be prepared with the theme of making a circle, square, triangle and rectangle to teach mathematics to students, besides cut outs of animals, fruits, vegetables, puzzles and puppets to make them acquaint with these things.

For these TLM themes, the material of cardboard, scissors, cutter, chart, adhesives, straws, tape rolls, colour papers, wax colours, water colour, sketch pens and white paper sheets are to be used.

Instead of relying on the classic method of learning in classrooms teaching, the TLM is an activity-based learning process which employs a variety of learning and teaching materials and the focus on student interaction to learn new concepts.
