Protest by PAU Employees Union enters seventh day

A dharna being staged by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Employees Union and PAU Class IV Workers Union entered its seventh day today. A large number of employees gathered at the union office and carried out a march to administrative block of the university. Later, the protesters employees sat on a dharna in front of the main gate of the administrative block.

Baldev Singh Walia, president of the PAU Employees Union, said: “Employees are fighting for their genuine demands, including reduction of experience for promotion of technical staff, increase in number of post of car/jeep drivers and supervisors, management of problems faced by local audit employees, restoration of promotions of eligible employees and to put an end to practice of appointing teachers on non-teaching posts.”

He said if those demands were not met, they would intensify the agitation. “The authorities have also failed to pay salaries for the month of April. If the salary is not paid soon, we will gherao the office of the comptroller,” he added.
