On a complaint filed by District Magistrate Dilraj Singh Sandhawalia, the police have booked 15 unauthorised travel/immigration agents under Section 13 of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act, 2012.
As per the provisions of the Act, it is mandatory for all such persons and IELTS centres to register themselves with the District Magistrates of the districts of their operation.
On July 13, the District Magistrate wrote to Senior Superintendent of Police Raj Jit Singh Hundal to register an FIR with details of the unauthorised agents.
Earlier, all travels agents and IELTS centres working in the district were served several notices by the district authorities to either comply or face legal action.
Following the FIR, all accused have absconded.
