“It was my first attempt and I was not expecting success,” said Anmol Sher Singh Bedi, 23, who stood second in the civil services examination, the result of which was declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) today.

A resident of the local Green Avenue, he has done BTech in computer science from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan.

“It’s a miracle. I didn’t work hard as I just wanted to have a feel of the exam. I will go for the Indian Foreign Service,” said Anmol, who did Class XII from Spring Dale School.

His uncle, Kanwaljit Singh Sohi, said the youngster had stayed in New Delhi while preparing for the examination. Anmol’s father SS Bedi is a professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar. His grandfather, Gajinder Singh Bedi, was a DSP in the Punjab Police.

Another Amritsar youth, Rahul Sharma, 26, son of Hindu College Principal PK Sharma, has stood 76th. Rahul thanked his father and teachers for helping him prepare for the tough examination. It was his third attempt. Rahul did BE (Electronics) from Thapar Engineering College.
