The judicial authorities succeeded in ending a 39-year-old tussle between two farmer families of Bhadaur town during a National Lok Adalat at the local court complex on Saturday.
On the intervention of the authorities led by District and Sessions Judge Varinder Aggarwal, who is chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), respondent Pritam Singh paid Rs 3 lakh to applicant Nachatar Singh.
Parmod Kumar Pabby counsel for Nachatar Singh said in 1980, the state government had allotted 38 kanals from surplus land to the applicant. But Pritam Singh challenged the allotment saying that since he was tenant of the land, it should be allotted to him.
“In 1991, the court upheld the allotment and after a long legal battle, Nachatar got the possession of land in 1998. But on May 5, 2000, Pritam Singh filed another case and produced a sale deed that Nachatar had sold the land to him, but Nachatar denied the sale. Later Nachatar alleged that Pritam had taken the possession of land,” said Pabby. “Both parties struck a compromise. Pritam Singh paid Rs 3 lakh to Nachatar and the latter will get a sale deed registered in the name of the former and his brother. Both have returned satisfied after a long legal battle,” said Pabby.
Meanwhile, The Punjab State Legal Services authorities today succeeded in getting more than 22,000 matters amicably resolved through 271 Benches constituted across the state during the Lok Adalat.
