5 armed robbers strike at bank in Amritsar, loot Rs 7.8L

AMRITSAR: In a daylight robbery, armed youths reportedly looted Rs 7.85 lakh from a branch of Punjab and Sind Bank located at Chhajalwindi village under Khilchian police station here today.

In a daylight robbery, armed youths reportedly looted Rs 7.85 lakh from a branch of Punjab and Sind Bank located at Chhajalwindi village under Khilchian police station here today.

Five armed youths arrived at the bank in a while Maruti Brezza car. They first attacked guard Bakshish Singh and snatched his rifle. Then they barged into the bank and pointed pistols at manager Ram Narayan and cashier Sandeep Kumar.

Ram Narayan told the police that the robbers demanded cash from the staff. One of the accused entered the cashier’s cabin and took away a trunk containing Rs 7.85 lakh. The robbers also took away the digital video recorder of the CCTV cameras. They also took away the rifle they had snatched from the guard.

Amritsar Rural police chief Vikram Jeet Duggal claimed that they had vital clues about the robbers and would arrest them soon.

“With the help of pictures of history sheeters shown to the bank staff, we have identified two suspects and raids are on at their suspected hideouts,” said Duggal, adding that the rest of them would also be identified.
