Jalandhar, December 13
Six members of the Sukha Kahlwan gang, including his associate Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Nizzar, were arrested by the Jalandhar rural police on Wednesday.
Kahlwan was murdered by a rival gang at Paddi Khalsa village near Goraya in January 2015.
The arrested gangsters include Gopi Nizzar (24) of Jairampur, Kapurthala; Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi Shooter (18) of Ghorewaha, Hoshiarpur; Rajinder Kumar alias Bangar (35) of Niarra, Hoshiarpur; Shehjad Chaudhary alias Chhota (20) of Ghorewaha, Hoshiarpur; Avinash Kumar alias Sanju (27) of Mohalla Vijay Nagar, Hoshiarpur and Amit Kumar alias Kaku (19) of Mohalla Gazi Gulla, Jalandhar.
Another gangster, Ranjit Singh alias Rannia of Pur Heera, Hoshiarpur, who was also accompanying the six, managed to escape.
The police also recovered two 7.65 bore pistols, two .315 bore country-made pistols along with two cartridges, a car, 250-gm intoxicant powder and two datars (sharp-edged weapons) from their possession.
An FIR under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered in this regard.
Addressing mediapersons, Navjot Singh Mahal, SSP, Rural, Jalandhar, said the six, who were active members of the Sukha Kahlwan gang, were intercepted by the Lambra police on a tip-off.
The SSP said, “The gangsters were arrested during a naka laid by the police near Nizzran gate.”
An FIR under Section 22 of the NDPS Act was lodged at the Lambra police station in Jalandhar against Gopi Shooter for possessing the intoxicant.
The SSP said Gopi Nizzar was arrested earlier too when he was an associate of Kahlwan. He resurrected the activities of the gang after roping in new members after the Sukha Kahlwan’s murder. Nizzar also operated the gang’s Facebook account. He was known for his enmity with the Hoshiarpur-based Gujjar gang. Gopi Shooter also has a murder case regarding against him.
During investigations, it surfaced that the Ertiga car recovered from the apprehended persons is registered in the name of another gangster Jatinder Kumar of Hoshiarpur, who has also been declared a proclaimed offender in cases registered against him at Hoshiarpur.
Mahal said the six, who committed snatchings at gunpoint, bank dacoities and looted ATMs, had several cases lodged against them, including murder.
