6 summoned in Hoshiarpur land scam

Nearly two months after the Vigilance Bureau chose to file a cancellation report in the Rs 58.58 crore Hoshiarpur land scam, the special court of the Enforcement Directorate has summoned six accused.
The matter is being heard in the court of SK Garg, District and Sessions Judge Jalandhar-cum-Special Judge under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The court has passed orders for the summons through warrants of arrest for Prateik Gupta, partner in International Engineers and SS Engineers, Pardeep Gupta, Harpinder Singh Gill, Jaswinder Pal Singh, Satwinder Pal Singh and Avtar Singh Johal for October 9 asking them to face trial for the offence under Section 3 of the PMLA.
The ED had lodged Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) on June 5, 2017, after the registration of case under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act by the Vigilance Bureau, Economic Offences Wing, Ludhiana, on February 10, 2017. The cancellation report in the case was moved by the Vigilance on July 7, 2019, but the ED continues to pursue the case.
The then Hoshiarpur SDM Anand Sagar Sharma, who was reportedly taken as the kingpin in the case too had been booked by the Vigilance. He was placed under suspension by the state government, but was reinstated later.
