The Moga police have seized at least 72 boxes (864 bottles) of liquor and arrested five smugglers during the past 24 hours, the police said today.
Liquor smuggler Tarsem Singh of Mahla Khurd village was arrested from Nathuwala Garbi village and 32 boxes of country-made liquor were recovered from him. The local police revealed that this consignment of liquor was meant for sale in Haryana, but it landed in the hands of smugglers who were selling it illegally here. Another 24 boxes of country-made liquor, also meant for sale in Haryana, were recovered from Harmandar Singh of Buttar Kalan village. This consignment of liquor was kept in a Scorpio, which was likely to be sold to the local customers before the police recovered it.
At least 16 boxes of a cheap brand of IMFL liquor were recovered from Lakhwinder Singh and Baljit Singh, both from Lohgarh village. — TNS
