BARNALA: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Barnala, arrested a man with 90 boxes of smuggled liquor on Tuesday night. However, four others escaped. The CIA Barnala team saw a group of persons loading liquor boxes onto a vehicle on the roadside near Kube village. “Seeing the police, four persons escaped, while our team succeeded in arresting Rachpal Singh. During search of vehicles, the police seized 90 boxes of smuggled liquor from Haryana,” said Baljit Singh, incharge of the Barnala CIA. TNS
Rs 15,000 looted from petrol pump
Fazilka: Five unidentified persons allegedly looted Rs 15,000 and two mobiles from a Hindustan Petroleum filling station near Khui Khera village in Fazilka district. An employee of the petrol pump, Jagjeevan, said on Monday night, he along with two other employees were on duty when five unidentified persons broke open the gate of the petrol pump office. They allegedly assaulted the employees and snatched Rs 15,000 and two mobile phones from them. OC
Youth jailed for eloping with minor
Abohar: A court here sent Dhanna Ram Meghwal of Roopnagar village to jail on Wednesday for eloping with a minor girl. The minor girl (16) of Ramdev Nagari, who eloped with him, refused to go with her parents. The court sent her to Nari Niketan. The duo claimed that they had got married in Kalka but could not prove that the girl was an adult. OC
Tanker catches fire, triggers traffic jam
Muktsar: A milk tanker caught fire near Udekaran village on the Muktsar-Kotkapura highway here on Wednesday. It led to a traffic jam on the highway. A fire brigade was called to control the fire. The police too reached the spot and recorded the statement of the driver. TNS
Youth robbed of mobile, cash
Zirakpur: Some unidentified persons robbed a 23-year-old youth of his mobile phone and cash on Monday in Zirakpur. Shailesh Kumar of Aero City, Zirakpur, told the police that he was returning home from work when he was robbed of his mobile and Rs 1,500 in cash. He alleged the accused also took away mobile phones of three labourers. OC
Govt institute named resource centre
Chandigarh: Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Punjab, has been nominated as the Regional Training and Resource Centre by the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for training of IT administrators drawn from across the country. This was stated by institute’s Director General KBS Sidhu, who inaugurated a workshop on cyber security on the premises here on Wednesday. TNS
