Members of the Congress, CPM and Janta Truck Union held a protest at Padampur (Sriganganagar) on Monday over the grain market tin shed collapse incident in which about 50 persons were injured during a “tractor drag” race on Sunday.
Around 5,000 people were present to witness the race organised by the 302 Randhawa Tractor Stunt Club.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot spoke over the phone to Sriganganagar Improvement Trust Chairman Raj Kumar Gaur to get updates of the incident. Gehlot said the incident indicated failure of the administration.
Congress activists, led by Ruby Kunnar, son of former minister Gurmeet Singh Kunnar, led a protest march and submitted memorandum to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sandeep Kakad and demanded strict action against the organising committee of the event.
Activists of the CPM, led by Ravinder Tarkhan, assembled at Nehru Park, took out a protest march and staged a dharna outside the SDM office.
Padampur SHO Rameshwar Bishnoi said a case was registered against event convener Dilbagh Singh Randhawa of Chak 46RB village.
