Muktsar: The SAD has filed the bail application of party’s Gidderbaha constituency incharge Hardeep Singh ‘Dimpy’ Dhillon, his brother Sunny Dhillon and personal assistant Jagtar Singh in a Gidderbaha court. “The case will come up for hearing tomorrow,” said advocate Gurmeet Mann. The court had on Thursday sent the trio to judicial custody for 14 days. They were taken to the District Jail here. One case was registered against the trio at Kotbhai police station for capturing a polling booth on Wednesday and the other at Gidderbaha for an alleged bid at booth-capturing. TNS

Super critical thermal plant soon: Kangar
Chandigarh: Allaying fears of the dominance by private players in the power sector due to the closure of 880 MW thermal units in Bathinda and Ropar, Power Minister Gurpreet Kangar said the state government had approved a super critical thermal plant for Ropar. Couple found murdered in Ferozepur village
Ferozepur: A middle-aged couple was found murdered at their house at Pandori Khatriyan village in Zira subdivision. They have been identified as Rajdeep Singh (50) and Prabhdeep Kaur (45). When their maid went to their house around 8.30 am, she saw the bodies lying in a pool of blood. She raised an alarm after which the neighbours called the police. Prabhdeep was reportedly eight months' pregnant. DSP Jaspal Dhillon said in the preliminary probe, it had come to the fore that the incident took place at around 7.30 am when the couple was getting ready to go out somewhere. The assailants came inside the house and fired at them from a close range. The police are investigating. OC
Over Rs 670 cr for development projects
Chandigarh: The state on Friday released Rs 670.29 crore towards pending power subsidy, VAT/GST refund and for various development projects. The government has released Rs 150 crore on account of power subsidy, Rs 93 crore for the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board and Rs 88 crore for the PUDA. A sum of Rs 65.31 crore has been released for environment, forestry and wildlife under the National River Conservation Plan while Rs 20.62 crore will be spent on externally aided projects and Rs 29.85 crore on the schemes funded by NABARD. Another Rs 24 crore has been released for PEDB and Rs 23.48 crore for AMRUT scheme. TNS
Man, who jumped off hospital building, dies
Abohar: Hans Raj (48) of Panjpeer Colony, who reportedly jumped off the first floor of the civil hospital here Thursday afternoon, died during treatment at the government hospital in Faridkot late last night. He was initially treated at the emergency ward in a critical condition and later referred to Faridkot. He was under treatment for tuberculosis for the past three days. OC
Two nabbed with intoxicants
Ropar : The district police claimed to arrested two drug peddlers and seized 34 vials and 600 tablets from their possession on Friday. The accused were identified as Karan Anand, alias Bachi, and Honey, both residents of Ropar. The police said the duo were nabbed near Patwarkhana. Injections and tablets along with Rs 3.5 lakh in cash were recovered from them, said the police. They confessed that the money was stolen from a house in Ucha Khera Mohalla in Ropar on September 17, the police added. tns
Students booked for violence
Patiala: The police on Friday registered a case against 12 students of Punjabi University, two days after a violent clash between two student unions on the campus. Ravinderpreet Singh, a student of the university, told the police that he and two other students -- Baljinderveer Singh and Jaismeen Kumar – were attacked due to party related issues. On Tuesday night, a scuffle between Democratic Students’ Organisation (DSO) and Students’ Association of Punjab (SAP) took place following a protest by DSO. The incident left six students and a university official injured. TNS
