Akali leaders for ‘one man, one post’

CHANDIGARH: Senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal today held two separate meetings –— one to discuss ways to revitalising the party after the Lok Sabha elections and another on its legal and political response to a chargesheet submitted by the SIT in police firing incidents of 2015.

Senior leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal today held two separate meetings –— one to discuss ways to revitalising the party after the Lok Sabha elections and another on its legal and political response to a chargesheet submitted by the SIT in police firing incidents of 2015.

Sources said the meeting in the morning discussed the organisational setup, which seemed to have suffered as the legislative wing had taken over the command while the party remained in power for 10 years. Some members favoured following “one man’ one post” system as is followed by its coalition partner, BJP, at the district and zonal level at least.

BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Delhi was a key member in the meeting. He gave inputs on the organisational structure of the BJP, which was proving fruitful for the party. Sirsa was with the Akali Dal before contesting a bypoll in Delhi on BJP symbol.

Others who attended the meeting included Bikram Majithia, Daljeet Singh Cheema, Tota Singh, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Kirpal Singh Badungar, Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Sikander Singh Maluka.

The second meeting in the late evening was attended by senior leaders and legal experts to discuss the chargesheet submitted by a SIT into Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing incidents.
