Pathankot, November 24
The Pathankot police launched a search operation in Shadipur village of the district after a villager spotted six suspicious men when he was working in his fields on Friday evening.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni said based on the inputs provided by farmer Balbir Singh, the cops searched all sugarcane fields located in Shadipur, but found nothing incriminating.
“I saw six tall persons who were carrying backpacks. As they were looking unfamiliar, I informed the village sarpanch, who later told the police about these suspicious men,” Balbir told mediapersons.
“The search is still going on. We carried out search operations in at least five villages, but didn’t find any footprint near the fields. I have asked all my SHOs to get involved in the operation. As a precautionary measure, we have cordoned off the entire village,” said the SSP.
In another incident, the police recovered a car near Muthi village after its occupants abandoned it.
The police say the car, bearing the Jammu and Kashmir registration number, belonged to bovine smugglers.
Extra vigil is being maintained by security agencies in the border district.
