Amritsar, January 15
After a gap of seven years, Air India is all set to launch twice-a-week Amritsar-Birmingham flight from February 15.
Addressing mediapersons here today, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla announced that the flight would fly on Tuesday and Thursday every week.
Commencing its flight from Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport at 1.25 pm on Tuesday, it will land at Birmingham the same evening. It will return here the next day to fly out on Thursday.
The Amritsar MP, belonging to the Congress, thanked the Centre, Union Minister Vijay Sampla and Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik for their support.
He thanked UK-based leaders of Indian origin Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi and Preet Gill for extending their wholesome support to the flight.
The flight is not new for the local airport as many flights in the past were successfully run and later withdrawn without citing any plausible reason.
Earlier, the national career had sprung a surprise by discontinuing its Amritsar-Birmingham-Toronto flight on October 31, 2010. It had been termed by many as the most successful flight in the national carrier’s history.
