Irate over the “assault” on headmaster and teachers by miscreants who allegedly forced entry into a government primary school in Burjmuhar village near Abohar, villagers and teachers blocked traffic on the Abohar-Fazilka stretch of the national highway on Friday afternoon.

They raised slogans demanding the arrest of a temple priest, his family and supporters. They alleged that Jaswant Singh, priest of a temple, his wife Parvati, son Rajinder and their supporters beat up headmaster Vijay Kumar, teachers Sonia Sachdeva, Sharanjit Kaur and others. They allegedly threatened the staff of dire consequences for lodging a complaint against the priest, alleging unfair behaviour with some school girls. District Education Officer Kashmiri Lal managed to pacify the protesters.

On the other hand, former Sarpanch Jagjit Singh led a deputation to the subdivisional complex and complained to SP Amarjit Singh Matwani that the village sarpanch and some other persons were trying to defame temple priest due to personal vendetta. The SP asked the Sadar police station incharge, Baljit Singh, to investigate. — OC
