Ludhiana, March 26

Four-time councillor Balkar Singh, 63, was on Monday elected the new mayor of Ludhiana. Shyam Sunder Malhotra has been elected senior deputy mayor while Saravjit Kaur is deputy mayor.

Earlier, the Patiala divisional commissioner administered oath to the newly elected councillors of the MC’s sixth house.

After being elected as mayor, Balkar Singh assured overall development in the city.

MC elections were held on February 24 while the result was declared on February 27. In MC Ludhiana elections, the Congress had swept the civic body polls after winning 62 of the 95 seats.

Besides, SAD had won 11 seats, BJP 10, Lok Insaaf Party seven while the AAP had won only a single seat.
