Despite a ban, dog fighting continues in the Lambi Assembly segment with impunity. People from affluent families last night set up a ring by arranging lights with the use of tractors in a vacant land between Khudian and Sikhwala villages. The place was merely 5 km away from the Lambi police station.
The issue came to light when a resident called The Tribune in this regard and the information was immediately conveyed to the local SHO and the SSP. However, the raiding team took more than half an hour to reach the spot and failed to arrest any person.
The informer, however, claimed that there were nearly 200 people present when the police team reached the spot, a majority of them managed to run away in their swanky cars with expensive breed dogs.
“The police team seized two tractors, a jeep and some dogs from the spot, but it let them go without taking any action against them,” claimed sources.
However, Jasveer Singh, SHO of the Lambi police station, said, “After getting the information, when we reached the spot those who had organised the illegal event and brought dogs managed to run away. We asked some people present there and they claimed to be innocent saying that they were spectators.”
The dog fight is so popular in this area and as the winter season starts, people from the border districts of Punjab and Rajasthan start organising it, claimed sources. It also leads to the death of some dogs.
Sources added, “The dogs are given training before the fight. They are left to starve one or two days before the fight. As a result, they become aggressive.”
