Local students Madhavan Gupta and Ramneek Kaur Mahal did the city proud by securing AIR 9 and 10, respectively, in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the result of which was declared on Monday.
Both Ramneek and Madhavan scored 680 marks out of 720. Their biology marks were also the same — 345. It’s just that Madhavan scored 165 marks out of 180 in chemistry, while Ramneek got 155 marks.
Another student from Bathinda Aabhas Katia secured AIR 124. Ramneek had also topped the district in the CBSE Class XII examination this year. An elated Madhavan said: “I wish to be a cardiologist. I was expecting to secure a good rank in NEET, but AIR 9 will help me get admission to the institute of my dream. I wish to study at Maulana Azad Medical College for my MBBS.” He added that after becoming a cardiologist, he would serve the needy and poor. Madhavan had secured CGPA 10 in the Class X examination and 93.4 per cent in the CBSE XII examination. While his father Pradip Gupta is a businessman, his mother Shivani Gupta is a teacher in a private school.
Ramneek Kaur Mahal’s dream to become a doctor was quite expected. His father Dr Amanjit Singh Mahal is a rural medical officer and mother Dr Brinder Kaur Mahal a gynaecologist. Ramneek had secured the first position in the CBSE in the district with 97.6 per cent and AIR 10 in NEET.
“I was confident of scoring well in NEET. I want to be a neurosurgeon,” she said.
