Apprehending breach of peace, the police arrested Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) district president Sukhminder Singh, Wasawa Singh and Sohan Singh at Bazidpur Bhoma village near the interstate border in the Seetogunno area on Saturday.
Their aides fled when the police stormed the village. The leaders raised slogans against the government while being taken in a police vehicle.
The BKU activists said they had assembled in a gurdwara to plan a protest during the visit of Congress legislator Nathu Ram in connection with panchayat bodies’ elections.
Their said water had not been released to capacity in the Lambi and Sukhchain minors (sub-canals) in the past decade. The change of guard in the state after the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections provided no relief to farmers, they added.
