Ludhiana, November 23
The court of Sessions Judge Gurbir Singh today stayed the arrest of Punjabi singer Elly Mangat in a firing incident at a wedding.
The orders were passed in the anticipatory bail application moved by singer following the registration of an FIR against him and two other persons at Sahnewal police station on November 19.
Claiming innocence, the singer contended that the basis of the FIR was a fake video which went viral on social media. Without verifying the contents of the video, the case was registered.
He said the video was part of the song “Legal Action” which was not uploaded on the internet. He said it, however, got leaked from somewhere.
Moreover, co-accused Gurbant Singh has already been arrested. His licenced weapon was also recovered. The police raided the house of Gurbant Singh at 6.16 pm to 6.30 pm on November 20. The CCTV footage of the camera installed in the house of a neighbor of Gurbant Singh clearly proves this fact. Thereafter, a case was registered at 8.45 pm.
It was claimed that the entire story put forward by the investigating officer was an afterthought. It was further submitted that there was marriage in the close circle of the applicant. An invitation card has also been placed on the file, wherein name of applicant was written under RSVP.
Staying his arrest, the singer has been directed to join the investigation. Meanwhile the court also stayed the arrest of co-accused Bhupinder Singh. Both bail applications would come up for hearing on November 27.
