Anandpur Sahib, March 6
Two years after Sant Labh Singh constructed a bridge on the Sutlej at the nearby Burj village, the state government has decided to connect it with a metalled road.
Local MLA and Speaker Rana KP Singh will lay the foundation stone of 1.23-km road on March 8.
It was on February 13, 2016, that religious leader Sant Labh Singh (Kila Anandgarh) had completed the bridge built by his efforts and public participation.
The 670-ft bridge, built at a cost of Rs 7 crore, reduced the distance between Anandpur Sahib and dozens of villages falling on the other side of the river from 22 km to 7 km.
So far, the bridge was not connected by metalled road. Local residents said that despite repeated requests to the local administration and public representatives, nothing was done in this regard.
Due to the absence of a metalled road, it was difficult to walk on a muddy patch during rains to reach the bridge.
Ropar PWD XEN said that the work on the road would start on March 8. It would be opened to the public within six months.
