Chandigarh: In an apparent attempt to bring down the pendency of old cases, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has made it clear to judicial officers that they will not be allowed to avail themselves of LTC or ex-India leave during working days, except in case of urgency. The High Court has also made it clear that "pre-fixing or suffixing leave" to make it a spell will be discouraged. The message was communicated through video conferencing to the District and Sessions Judges in the States of Punjab and Haryana, along with Chandigarh, by Chief Justice Krishna Murari and arrears committee chairman Justice Rajesh Bindal. Chief Justice Murari asked the officers to take leave only when it was absolutely necessary. TNS
Now, fuel mafia active in state: Malik
New Delhi: State BJP president and MP Shwait Malik on Thursday alleged that the Congress government was promoting fuel mafia in the state. Holding the government responsible for deteriorating law and order, thriving of anti-national elements and neglect of Dalits and farmers, he questioned Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his silence. He said while Capt Amarinder Singh was an "invisible" CM, his ministers and MLAs had also started avoiding public. Malik alleged that since the Congress government failed to reduce fuel prices, the mafia had been smuggling it from neighbouring states to sell in Punjab. TNS
Bhagwat meets Beas dera chief
Jalandhar: On the last day of his three-day visit to Punjab, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat visited Radha Soami Satsang Beas on Thursday. Bhagwat met dera chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon before leaving for New Delhi. He also met environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal during his trip. The RSS had launched a web TV from the state under its educational affiliate, Vidya Bharti, on Wednesday. TNS
DSGMC seeks action against ex-gen secy
New Delhi: Harmeet Singh Kalka, executive president of the DSGMC, on Thursday lodged a complaint asking the police to take action against Gurmeet Singh Shunty for levelling "baseless" allegations of corruption against committee chief Manjit Singh GK. Shunty is a former general secretary of the committee. Kalka said there was no record that GK had withdrawn Rs 51 lakh from the committee's account. TNS
HC declares PCS (Judicial) result
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana HC on Thursday declared the result of the Punjab Civil Services (Judicial Branch) Main written exam. It was held under the supervision of HCS/PCS recruitment committee chairperson Justice Rajan Gupta between September 7 and 9. List of candidates who have qualified for the viva voce on the basis of the marks secured in the main written examination, has been uploaded on the HC website. TNS
